1. Who we are
sorlo is a project based in the United Kingdom. General enquiries: hello@sorlo.app. Safety: safety@sorlo.app. Privacy: privacy@sorlo.app.
2. Who can use sorlo
You must be 18 years old or over to create an account or use sorlo. You must have capacity to agree, provide substantially accurate information, represent yourself honestly and not create another account after removal where prohibited.
3. Your account
Phone-number SMS authentication is currently the primary sign-in method. Keep your account secure. Do not share access, use another person’s number without permission, bypass authentication or use deceptive automated methods.
4. How sorlo works
sorlo helps people discover others through real relationships, social context, Trips, Plans, temporary Around signals, positive venue recommendations, introductions and connection paths.
Trusted
Trusted is a directional relationship or trust choice made by a user. It is not identity verification, screening, certification or a safety guarantee.
Met
Met records a confirmed interaction between the relevant two sorlo accounts. A Meetup confirmation does not identity-verify either person, prove exact location, screen or endorse anyone, or guarantee meeting safety.
Vouch
Vouch is contextual endorsement or social context from an eligible user. It is not identity verification, a background check or a guarantee of character, safety or future behaviour.
Connection paths
Paths may be partial and do not mean everyone in a path knows, recommends or endorses everyone else. Network context, Trusted, Met, Vouch, Personal Key, an introduction or a connection path are not guarantees that somebody is safe, trustworthy, identity-verified or suitable to meet.
5. Personal Keys
A Personal Key is an intentional, revocable connection mechanism. Entering or scanning one may enable an intentional lookup or request flow; it does not itself create a relationship, guarantee acceptance or create permission to contact someone. Do not share another person’s key without permission, use keys to harass or bypass privacy, or reproduce them to impersonate someone.
6. Discoverability and privacy
Visibility depends on settings, relationships and features. Social proximity does not automatically create permission to contact someone. Respect privacy, boundaries and communication choices.
7. Trips, Around and location context
Trips provide chosen travel or place context. A Trip is not necessarily exact or current physical location, and you should not assume it represents live tracking. Around is an explicit, temporary signal that a user is open to Plans in a chosen coarse place on selected upcoming days; it is not GPS, inferred presence or proof that somebody is currently there. Never use location information to stalk, monitor, intimidate or harm.
8. Plans
Plans are user-created activities, generally not organised, supervised or endorsed by sorlo. We do not promise that organisers, participants, venues, descriptions, accessibility or safety have been checked. Hosts must act responsibly; participants decide what is appropriate.
A Plan invitation or secure share link does not automatically enrol, approve or require anybody to join. The recipient must use the relevant authenticated flow, and access remains subject to the Plan’s current rules and permissions.
9. Introductions and communication
Introductions and communication do not obligate anyone to respond, accept, meet, join a Plan or continue. Respect no-contact decisions. Repeated unwanted contact or attempts to circumvent blocks or privacy settings are prohibited.
10. Meeting people offline
We cannot guarantee identity, intentions, conduct, background or safety. Use your own judgement and sensible precautions such as public places and telling someone where you are going. sorlo is not an emergency service; contact local emergency services in immediate danger.
11. Acceptable use
Use sorlo lawfully and respectfully. Do not threaten, harass, stalk, discriminate, sexually harass, exploit children, traffic, impersonate, defraud, scrape, spam, circumvent controls, expose private information, use malicious code or unauthorised bots, or encourage others to do so.
12. Blocking, reporting and safety
Blocking applies the restrictions associated with the feature. We may review reports and warn, restrict, remove content, suspend or terminate accounts, or cooperate with authorities where appropriate. Reports do not guarantee a particular outcome and must not be knowingly malicious or false.
13. Your content
You retain ownership of User Content. You grant sorlo a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, display and use it as reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve the Service under these Terms and the Privacy Policy. You must have the rights to provide it.
14. Other people’s content
Other users retain ownership of their content. Do not copy, commercially exploit, republish or distribute it outside ordinary Service functionality without permission or another lawful right.
15. sorlo intellectual property
sorlo and its software, branding, designs, graphics and functionality belong to us or licensors. We grant a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the Service as intended.
16. Third-party services
Some functionality relies on third-party technology and services, which may have their own terms and privacy practices. Relevant provider categories are described in our Privacy Policy.
17. Beta and evolving features
The Service may be beta or early access. Features may change, be experimental, interrupted, limited or contain errors. This does not affect rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
18. Account suspension and termination
You may stop using sorlo at any time. We may restrict, suspend or terminate access for material or repeated breach, safety or security risk, abuse, legal requirement or protection of the Service. Where appropriate, we may provide notice or appeal.
19. Account deletion
You may request deletion through Service controls. We may require verification or reauthentication. Requests are ordinarily processed within 30 days. Live account/profile/product information is deleted or anonymised as appropriate. Limited information may be retained where reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, legal obligations or appropriate audit integrity, and may be minimised, detached or pseudonymised. Deletion is not necessarily immediate and deleted profiles are not kept available to other users.
20. Service availability
We aim to provide a reliable Service but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. Access and features may change for maintenance, security, technical or development reasons.
21. Our responsibility to you
Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for independent user or third-party actions, inaccurate information, relationship signals, Plan suitability, another person’s response or a particular outcome.
22. Your responsibility
You are responsible for your conduct. If unlawful or deliberate misuse causes loss or legal consequences, you may be responsible to the extent the law provides.
23. Changes to sorlo
We may introduce, change or discontinue features to develop, operate, secure or improve the Service and will communicate material changes where appropriate.
24. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify users where appropriate or legally required. The date above identifies the latest version.
25. Governing law and availability
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. sorlo is currently launched and primarily operated from the United Kingdom. The Service may be accessible elsewhere and feature availability may vary. Mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring proceedings elsewhere remain unaffected.
26. General
If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remainder continues. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and applicable feature terms form the agreement governing use.
